Mga Anak ni Inang Daigdig Earth Day Concert

Mga Anak ni Inang Daigdig (MAID), an environmental performing arts group featuring young people and children from Smokey Mountain , will hold a special dance concert on April 22, 2012 at the AFP Theater.

Dubbed "A Tale of Two Mountains," the concert will feature dance rituals that echo the need to protect our environment.  It will also premier a short film of the same title by Ferdinand Dimadura that tells the story of Smokey Mountain and another mountain, miles apart, which displaced our indigenous people "the aetas" and thousands of homes in Pampanga, Zambales and Bataan.  Mt. Pinatubo is being eyed as a resettlement area for those affected by the eruption and three thousand families from Smokey Mountain and other areas of Tondo.

MAID was founded in 1993 by Fr. Benigno P. Beltran and debuted in 1994 in a concert entitled “The Cry of Mother Nature” at the Philippine International Convention Center. They were initially trained under the Philippine-ITI Earthsavers Dreams Academy and later under the tutelage of the late National Artist for Dance, Ramon Obusan. The group has already performed in Australia, USA, Germany, Sweden and Japan.  They are now the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines' Ambassadors for Peace and Environment.

They also put into action what they advocate through dances.  The group partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the reforestation of 135 hectares of Mt. Ayaas. a denuded mountain located in Montalban, Rizal.

For every one thousand peso earned by the concert through sponsorship or ticket sales, a seedling will be planted under the name of the ticket buyer or sponsor.

The concert is being organized by Sagip Bansa Filipinas Inc, a non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization that seeks to uplift the Filipino, find solutions to help the poorest of the poor, participate in the collective effort to arrest environmental degradation and sincerely partake in the greening and reforestation of our country.
